Itinerary
Arrival in the late afternoon in the area of Viareggio, on the coast of Versilia. Aaccommodation in a hotel in one of its famous seaside resorts (between Marina di Massa and Lido di Camaiore). Dinner and overnight stay. Plase note that the hotels that accept groups are not located by the sea. During the bathing season the hotel will be in the area of Pisa, as hotels in the area of Viareggio do not accept groups.
After breakfast at the hotel, departure to the port of La Spezia. Here we will meet a guide-companion who will accompany us during the boat trip to discover the Cinque Terre, a fascinating stretch of coast dotted with ancient fishing villages suspended between land and sea, perched on steep and rocky cliffs overlooking a crystal clear sea, surrounded by typical terraces cultivated with vineyards and olive groves, and characterized by the pastel colors of the houses-towers in Genoese style. Departure for Monterosso, the largest village of the Cinque Terre and also the oldest, where we will visit the fourteenth-century church of San Giovanni Battista, in Gothic-Genoese style, with its two-coloured facade, the Fieschi castle and the monastery with the church named after San Francesco. After lunch in Monterosso departure for Portovenere, the fortified seaside village that has fascinated myriad visitors. We will walk along the famous “palazzata” on the seafront, until we reach the Church of San Pietro, a small medieval church overlooking the sea. Return to La Spezia and transfer by bus to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast at the hotel, departure for Carrara, home of the fine white marble from which some of the most beautiful and famous works in the world took shape. A local guide will take us to the historic center of the city and the famous quarries, exploited for over two thousand years for the precious stone that has made the city famous throughout the world.
Lunch in Carrara. In the afternoon, continue to the village of Lerici, one of the most loved and renowned resorts on the Riviera di Levante for its views and beaches with clear waters. The centre is a collection of narrow streets and alleys, buildings with colourful facades, restaurants and traditional shops. Free time to visit the small harbour or walk along the shore to the nearby village of San Terenzo, admiring all the beauty of the “Gulf of the Poets”. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Breakfast (around 6.30 am) and departure for Piombino, port of embarkation to the Island of Elba, the largest in the Tuscan Archipelago. After a crossing of about 1 hour, we arrive in Portoferraio, the capital and main center of the island. Guided tour of its historic center an authentic treasure chest containing castles, villas, fortresses, picturesque alleys and ancient churches. We will visit the two villas where Napoleon stayed during his exile on the island of Elba: villa dei Mulini and villa San Martino (entrance not included). We continue our tour in the direction of Marciano Marina, the smallest town on the island, to visit its picturesque neighborhoods with narrow granite streets and pastel-colored houses overlooking the sea. Lunch during the visit. Last stop of our tour is Marina di Campo, the beautiful village that stretches along the longest beach on the island of Elba. In the late afternoon, return crossing from Portoferraio to Piombino. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Florence. The whole day will be dedicated to the discovery of this city, a true open-air museum full of architectural masterpieces and unique works of art in the world, which extends into a green plain surrounded by hills dotted with cypresses and olive trees and crossed by the Arno. Guided tour of the beautiful historic center: Piazza della Signoria, for centuries at the center of political life in Florence with Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia dei Lanzi; the Ponte Vecchio and its famous goldsmiths’ shops; the magnificent Duomo, or Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with the famous dome of Brunelleschi, the Baptistery with the beautiful Gate of Paradise of Ghiberti and the Bell Tower of Giotto, from which you can enjoy an incredible view over the city; the gothic church of Santa Croce (entrance not included) which houses the tombs of many famous Florentine and famous Tuscan artists such as Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. Lunch and then free time for shopping and discovering this unforgettable city in total autonomy. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast at the hotel, departure for a full day excursion with our guide to discover the Gulf of Tigullio… Cruise by boat from Rapallo to Portofino. Visit of Portofino, the most visited resort on the Riviera di Levante, famous worldwide for its small tourist marina that welcomes international jet set characters with their houses with colorful facades and windows facing the sea, arranged in a delightful semicircle that seems to protect the central square, which is the beating heart of the village. Walking in this bay, protected by the green Mediterranean maquis of the promontory that surrounds it, in the typical atmosphere of dolce vita, made of coffee outdoors and foulard in your hair, is really an unforgettable experience.
Return by liner to Rapallo, one of the most characteristic villages in the province of Genoa, with a discreet but captivating charm, where it is pleasant to stroll slowly to discover its historic centre with its streets, the narrow streets, ancient buildings and monuments of great artistic and historical value; its seafront overlooking one of the most beautiful corners of the Ligurian sea and finally the port area, which retains its maritime charm, The legacy of millennia dedicated to fishing and sea trade. After lunch, stop in Chiavari, beautiful capital of Tigullio, in balance between medieval architecture and nineteenth-century arcades, stately buildings and attractive windows, shops where you can shop among crafts, gastronomy, fashion.
